It is a tale as old as time. Do not judge a book by its cover. It is so true that what you see before you may not be all that there is. Like in today's reading when God tells Samuel that "not as man see does God see."
It is so true with so many people. People who on the outside look perfect, well-rounded and full of goodness. When in reality inside they are shallow, prejudiced, unkind and many other ugly things. Unfortunately many people are very good at making you believe that they are something more than they are.
It is a rare person that bucks the trend and is an individual. A person that follows their own path and doesn't care what others think. We can all learn something from these people. How to be an individual and comfortable in your own skin is one lesson. How many of us at one time or another have pretended to be something that we aren't just to fit in and not stick out? Well I say, God made all of us beautiful and unique. It is our uniqueness that we should embrace and stand out, not blend in. We should strive to be the person that God intended us to be and not the person that society wants us to be.
