Thought for the Day
January 17

Today is a time for peace, a time for justice. We are still welcoming a new year, and we are in the early days of a new decade. The days are filled with promise.

Tomorrow we remember Dr. Martin Luther King. One way to recall  Dr. King's legacy is to participate in acts of service. Volunteering is good for the community and good for ourselves year round, but Dr. King's birthday is one day that we can set aside to help our neighbors.

Sometimes we are unable to do the hands-on work we would like to accomplish. The earthquake in Haiti left many of us feeling helpless. What can we do for some of our poorest brothers and sisters in such a tragedy? We can pray for the people of Haiti and the rescue workers. We can contribute to reputable organizations, such as the Red Cross or Catholic Charities.

Later this week we will be celebrating the Seamless Garment here at St. Clare parish. This is an evening to commemorate life. All stages of life will be honored, from the unborn child to the disabled, to the ill or elderly, to those imprisoned All are welcome to the event.
